Mwimba Texas vs. RTGA Du Pouvoir Lion
Two of Congolese wrestling’s best went head to head. The result saw Mwimba Texas roll up RTGA in a tight cradle for the pinfall. Texas held on to the cradle long after the victory and the crowd showed their support for the Congolese legend!
Mwimba Texas unfortunately passed away on August 30, 2020 at the age of 53 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Texas was a staunch supporter of the traditional style of pro wrestling and did not believe that fetiche should be used in a pro wrestling match. That opinion and his old school style allowed him to become a very strong technical wrestler. Outside of the ring, Texas was an activist, fighting for the rights and fair treatment of people living with albinism in the DRC and throughout Africa. His contributions to society and Congolese catch were vast and he is still celebrated by the wrestlers of the Congo to this day.
Texas’s opponent in this match is RTGA Du Pouvoir Lion. RTGA is based in the Republic of the Congo, the DRC’s neighbor to the west. RTGA is the current (as of September 20, 2021) champion of Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of the Congo. Championship titles are recognized based on geographical districts in the Congo so being reigning champion of the capital and largest city in the country is no small feat! RTGA is also called Lion or Lion Power and is a very sound technical wrestler as well, which we unfortunately don’t see much of in this clip.

RTGA is set to be in action again following a break due to the Covid-19 pandemic at the end of this month, from September 29th to October 2nd for the departmental championship.
