Atsushi Onita launches new promotion using FMW name

At a press conference on May 6th, Japanese hardcore wrestling legend Atsushi Onita announced his plans to launch a brand new wrestling promotion using the FMW name that he originated and made famous over thirty years ago. This time around, however, the promotion’s main attraction will focus on explosions.

Onita announced that the promotion, going by the name Frontier Martialarts Wrestling Explosion, or FMWE, will hold its inaugural event on July 4, 2021. As the originator of the exploding ring, Onita may be looking to capitalize on the recent exposure to mainstream wrestling fans on the exploding ring concept. All Elite Wrestling recently held an exploding ring barbed wire death match and there may be a bigger audience for this type of match than there has been at any time in the recent past.

Onita announced that the promotions events will be able to be viewed online. For more information about what to expect from FMWE, check out their website. Here at WrestleMap, we find this news to be very exciting as members of our staff were diehard fans of FMW’s first go-round. It’s even more exciting to us that the inaugural FMWE show is set to take place on WrestleMap’s one year anniversary!

We’ll do our best to keep you posted with new details regarding FMWE as they become available.
