Support Coming From Government and Judiciary for Pakistan’s REW
Pakistan’s Revolution Eastern Wrestling has accomplished a lot in a short time and have found themselves in the world wrestling news a lot as of late. Whether it’s crowning new champions, introducing Pakistan’s first female wrestler, defending their world championship on foreign soil or their relationship with AEW stars like Sammy Guevara and more (which we hope to cover soon on these pages), REW sure is making headlines here on WrestleMap.com.
While our coverage of REW has focused mostly on in-ring accomplishments, some of the company’s out of the ring accomplishments are just as newsworthy.
Revolution Eastern Wrestling is the first and only wrestling promotion in Pakistan, and perhaps the world, to be supported in part by the country’s judiciary system. Former 3 time REW World Champion The Kovu Brandon is the first Pakistani wrestler to be employed by the country’s judicial system and in turn, they are providing financial support for Revolution Eastern Wrestling in multiple ways. Some of that support is coming from the honorable district and sessions judge, Mr. Khalid Hussain Shahani.
On top of the support from Judge Khalid Hussain Shahani, groups within the Pakistan judiciary such as the Sindh Judicial Welfare Association and the All Pakistan Judicial Employers Association have provided support.
As mentioned above, the support coming from the Pakistani judiciary may be the only instance of support for professional wrestling coming from any country’s judiciary system. While we have come across some types of government support for pro wrestling organizations throughout the world, it will usually come from either sports councils, legislatures or representatives. This instance of support from the judiciary is definitely a first to our knowledge.
Outside of the judiciary, REW also has local government support in Karachi from Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and its administrator, Mr. Laeeq Ahmed, and Director of Sports, Mr. Kanwar Ayub. Mr. Ahmed and the KMC have pledged support for future REW events along with support for establishing an REW training school. The KMC Sports Complex has also offered to help provide space for future events along with the aforementioned training school.
The goal of all of these government bodies and their involvement in pro wrestling in Pakistan is the same. To help support the growth and development of professional wrestling in Pakistan. With the strides REW has made recently, this support is going a long way to help with those efforts.
