Argentina’s first ever deathmatch scheduled for this weekend
Buenos Aires based Legion Nueva Era is planning to sanction Argentina’s first ever deathmatch this weekend. The match is set for La Ultima Cena (The Last Supper) which is scheduled for Sunday, December 19th at Club Juventud y Armonia, Legion’s home venue, starting at 5 PM (17:00HS) Buenos Aires time.
Set to compete in the deathmatch are Francisco Rolon and Johnny Fox. If Rolon loses, he will be forced to become Johnny Fox’s personal referee. These two have been feuding on and off for a while now with a deep dislike brewing between the two. This stems back to a confrontation between the two dating back to Legion’s Halloween event where Rolon refused Johnny’s request for a fight. Fox then proceeded to attack Rolon and Legion trainees from the Legion Dojo. With Rolon being the owner of Legion Nueva Era, this assault on the promotion’s students was seen as an attempt by Johnny Fox to harm Rolon, both physically, financially and personally. This violent first will be a little different from what we have seen from Legion Nueva Era, and really Argentine pro wrestling as a whole, up to this point and will be a high point for the company to close out the year on as La Ultima Cena will be their last event of the year.
Also scheduled for action at La Ultima Cena:
Legion Nueva Era Maximum Champion Pandemia will defend his title against Chuck Dixon, the leader of one of Legion’s most powerful stables, Nemesis. This match will give Nemesis an opportunity to leave La Ultima Cena with all of Legion’s title belts if Dixon can beat Pandemia and Nemesis can hang on to their tag titles. Beating Pandemia is easier said than done though as the champion is one of Argentina’s most technically sound and fiercely physical wrestlers.
A fifteen wrestler, over the top battle royal. As of now, the first four competitors have been announced and they include the champion of Argentine promotion Duela De Leyendas Bobby Cruz, the technically proficient open challenge master Ricky Rocca, the big and powerful Kuma and rookie newcomer Matt De Mul. The winner will get a shot at the Legion Nueva Era Maximum Title and the company has promised some surprises for this match, most likely in the form of surprise unannounced entrants.
The tag team champions, Terry and Slovak, the final two thirds of Nemesis, will defend their title against newfound friends, and former enemies, the exciting high flyer Cassidy and the athletic and sometimes terrifying Frankie Legrand. There is a lot of very innovative offense that both teams are capable of and chances are fans will be left in awe at times due to some of the action in the ring. The question remains, though, whether or not Cassidy and Frankie will be able to gel quickly and overcome an experienced and seasoned tag team like Nemesis.
La Ultima Cena will cap off a good year for Legion who did their best to remain active this year with creative tournaments and other solutions for holding events that were put on mostly without an audience until recently. With this being the company’s last event of the year, with fans being back in the building and with a deathmatch on the card, chances are good that Legion will go out with a big bang to close out 2021.
Legion Nueva Era is very good with uploading their matches and events to their YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to check out some great Argentine indie wrestling but also, in anticipation for the release of video of Argentina’s first deathmatch!
