Over the years, lots of professional wrestlers have emerged from Anambra State and have become Nigerian national champions, African champions and world champions to be reckoned with respectively at various times of their pro wrestling career. Anambra state, also known as the Light of the Nation (formerly home for all), is a Nigerian state, located in the southeastern region of the country. The State was created on August 27, 1991. The state is bounded by Delta State to the west, Imo State to the south, Enugu State to the east and Kogi State to the north.
Great talents Anambra as a state has produced are the late Michael Okpala (Power Mike), the former world professional wrestling heavyweight champion from Neni, located in the Anaocha Local Government Area; the late Nze Benneth Afulueke Okoye (Ben Lion Heart) of blessed memory from Udo village, Akpo in Aguata Local Govt. Area; Peter O. Udechuckwu (Action Man Tiger Fist) from Nnewi South Area of Anambra State; Simon O. Umeh (Iron Saigun), former African tag team champion of the Iron Brothers fame; Ifeanyi Christopher Nnatuanya, popularly known as “De Lionman,” who passed away on December 19th 2010 and a host of others.

“I have what it takes to defeat my challengers but I just want to present the belt to the people’s governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, and receive his blessing before forging ahead. I was supposed to have defended the title early this year in Congo Brazzaville, East Africa but I insisted that I have to receive the fatherly blessing of my governor before any title defense as that would afford me the opportunity of going back home to present the belt to the governor who has done so much for Anambra State since he became the governor. It may not be easy achieving this, but it is very possible. I have plans to defend my title in Akwa or Onitsha as it will not be possible for anybody to rob me in front of my kinsmen and the working governor which can happen in any other parts of the world,” explained the stylish grappler. “I need to compete at home after so long a time. No place like home. I am sure of victory at home. After successfully defending the continental title, I will present it to governor Soludo for his supportive roles to sporting events, community development, good governance, peaceful initiatives and for all his efforts and plans to take Anambra State to the next level,” he concluded.

The African pro wrestling organization handling the championship is currently working round the clock to see to the success of the championship in Nigeria once there is clearance from the state government and the Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASDS) on hosting the African Light heavyweight championship title contest.
According to Ralph Nwafor, the Secretary of the Nigeria Wrestling Board of Control, ‘’We are set to revolutionize the African Pro Wrestling scenes through this title defense to what is obtainable in the western world. We have the talents, the techniques, gimmicks, and basically, what we lack is the exposure to the international world of the game which we are currently taking care of,” he narrated. “ We have taken the African Pro-wrestling crusade to Benin Republic, Ghana, Mali, Burkina Faso, Cameroon and South Africa before now and since charity begins at home, Anambra state in Nigeria would be hosting the next title defense since Executioner did not honour defending his title at the Republic of Congo in East Africa for some vital reasons,” he concluded.
De Executioner, who was trained by Jimmy Coaster and Jimmy Palm in 1985 at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos in Nigeria, has been privileged to wrestle with who is who in the world of African wrestling in his home country Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Benin Republic and South Africa with the likes of Super Samson, Kally Mackson Jack, Heavy Clinton, Flying Jack on Top, Busy Jet Fighter, Mr. Efficiency, Black Heritage, Mr. Sharpman, Stone Codder, and a host of other talented superstars.
Angus, who has paid the price in the world of wrestling, is looking forward to defending the African Pro Wrestling Organization (AWO) light heavyweight title which he won in Lagos on the 19th December 2020 after slugging it out with and defeating his Sierra Leonean opponent Ambudim popularly known as “De Shark” a few minutes into the tough bout.
