New multinational promotion debuts in Argentina

We shared some news recently on this page regarding a new promotion that was set to debut in Argentina called Quilombo Wrestling. Quilombo is spearheaded by Chile’s top narional pro wrestling promotion, Campeonato Nacional de Lucha, or CNL.

Quilombo recently made their debut in Argentina, in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires at Villa Malcolm, a nightclub venue, on March 4th, 2023. As part of the event, several CNL titles were on the line and many stars from Chile’s top league were in action on the card. Mario Mentasti, a regular contributor to WrestleMap, reached out and provided results for the event.

About the event, Mario stated “Quilombo Wrestling had its first show in Argentina. QW is masterminded by CnL (Campeonato Nacional de Lucha) from Chile, involving top tier Chilean and Argentine wrestlers.”

Results:

  • J-Master wins the fatal fourway against Chuck Dixon, Cochrane and Frankie Legrand

  • Enigma 17 defeated Rob Dickinson

  • Django y Dragonetti (Los Elegidos) defeated Fast Love

  • Lucio defeated Nicolas Richard

  • Taylor Wolf defended his CNL National Championship belt, defeating Tito Moran Jr.

  • Divinna defended her CNL Women’s Championship belt, defeating Roma

  • Herco Whisky defended his CNL Metropolitan Championship, defeating Valentin Bravo

In the main event, Herco Whisky returned to compete in his home country of Argentina for the first time in four years. In the time since last wrestling in Argentina, he has established himself as a top wrestler in CNL and toured internationally throughout Europe.

The event was said to be well attended by Mario Mentasti, who was in attendance covering the event for Chilean pro wrestling site rasslin.net. The venue was full and Mario gave an estimate of “easily 200-250” fans on hand. Production value was also said to be top notch. The crowd gave a warm reception to the opening fatal four way match while the Taylor Wolf vs. Tito Moran Jr. CNL National Championship match and tag team match between Fast Love and Los Elegidos stood out as being some of the best on the card.

The event featured wrestlers from several promotions across Chilean and Argentine pro wrestling. Chile has the top independent wrestling scene in South America right now and this CNL-backed expansion into Argentina could prove to be a big boost to the indie scene in Argentina. Argentina is no stranger to successful pro wrestling promotions in their past as both Titanes En El Ring and 100% Lucha have both seen great success and popularity on a national stage and it’s not hard to imagine that a strong promotion with the right amount of resources and funding could see a similar result. Perhaps Quilombo could be that next jolt to take Argentine pro wrestling to the next level of success within the country.

From top: Django, who currently wrestles with Argentina’s ASW, and Dragonetti, who made a return to the ring for the Quilombo event after a long hiatus from the ring, were both participants in the 2018 WWE Latin America tryouts; Enigma 17 (right) lands a flying knee on Rob Dickinson; and J-Master (left) of Catch Argentino hits Captain Cochrane, of HIT Wrestling from Temuco, Chile as they’re perched on the top rope. It’s exciting to see the launch of this new promotion and the strong response it’s already received from fans. We can’t wait to see what’s next from Quilombo and hope this will help get some of the super talented wrestlers from Argentina some bigger opportunities.
