Angola Wrestling Entertainment announces plans to hold live events in 2022

Angola Wrestling Entertainment has taken to their Instagram account this week to make an announcement about their future. The Luanda-based promotion shared some history about the sport in Angola as well as plans to move forward to create a pro wrestling promotion in Angola that does not include the voodoo wrestling style that was created in neighboring Democratic Republic of the Congo and has grown in popularity in Angola as well. The AWE shared the news to Instagram in Portuguese so we’ve translated the full message, which you can read below.

Pro Wrestling in Angola began in mid-1982, brought by master Chama Chama, returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo, arriving in Luanda and developing the modality with the masters Turbo, Oursman, Fantomas, Kinavuidi, Sinfwa Blaise, and Papa Wemba, with Mr António Vemba (Papa Wemba) being the biggest promoter of the events in Angola, having trained and taken the fighters to the highest level of fame.

Tchiri Tchiri Kimbangu, Avo Bayaya, Rey Nunay, Geremias Ngoma, among others with the most resounding name of the late Godzila.

With the appearance of AWE in 2021, the objective will be to make 2022 the year of the projection of Pro Wrestling in a more original aspect; with a style that abdicates mystical scenes, sorcery and is not full of hidden mysteries; with the real objective of modernizing Pro Wrestling and bringing a style like that of the WWE to the industry in Angola.

Until then, stay tuned for the purest and sanest way to practice and promote Wrestling on Angolan soil.

The AWE shows some real promise of creating a new style of pro wrestling on a high level in Angola. The modernized move sets, athletic in ring ability they’ve shown in past events (and in recent training videos), and lack of a mystical element will help AWE stand out as an original brand of pro wrestling in Angola. We’ll keep you posted on any more new details to be released about the promotion’s 2022 debut. In the meantime, you can check out Trovoada, current AWE Champion, in tag team action below.
