The first pro wrestling promotion on the island nation of Cyprus in many years set to make debut in October
An unexpected competitor has stepped forward to take the reigns in a story that we’ve been watching unfold over the last couple years.
Pro Wrestling Cyprus, a brand new company, has stepped forward and announced their intention to run their debut event in the city of Nicosia from October 7th to October 8th at Cyprus Comic Con.
So far, no talent announcements have been made for the upcoming event. However, a recent video posted to Instagram showing off the newly unveiled Pro Wrestling Cyprus Championship belt was cross posted to the account of Tate Mayfairs, a successful indie wrestler who has won titles and made appearances for promotions such as PROGRESS in the UK. While that’s not a verification that Mayfairs will be present at the first event, it seems to imply that he’ll be involved with Cyprus Pro Wrestling to some extent. A second video posted to the PWC Instagram account teased some additional wrestlers in an introduction video.
WrestleMap reached out to Pro Wrestling Cyprus for additional details and received the following response:
“When a new entity enters a scene there is always lots of Hustle and bustle. To date we have not seen anything concrete materialise and indeed hope to do so in future.
Pro Wrestling Cyprus will be promoting live events, (the first of which is pencilled in for early October) and will indeed be investing in the cultivation of local talent, with a view to producing a truly Cypriot brand that everyone Island wide can be proud of.
As we speak, details are being finalised and equipment is in route to the Island. May onwards will see various announcements alongside news on the FIRST EVER Cypriot Professional Wrestling Championship. Pro Wrestling Cyprus is coming soon!”

There are a couple of pro wrestlers based out of Cyprus and one that we spoke to expressed excitement about the launch of PWC and the future of pro wrestling in Cyprus. The PWC’s debut in October will mark the first pro wrestling event on the island nation since a women’s wrestling event that took place in Limassol in 2013 and was advertised as featuring wrestlers from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and France. The formation of PWC will bring pro wrestling back to the island on a regular basis for the first time in three decades, according to Pro Wrestling Cyprus.
