South Korea’s Pro Wrestling Society to crown new champion this weekend on free live stream
Pyeongtaek, South Korea based Pro Wrestling Society is planning a return to the ring this weekend on November 14th with an event in their APEX series. The event is planned to have a limited capacity live crowd but for those that can not attend the event live, a free live stream will be available for interested fans. The event will crown the company’s new champion in a tournament final.
PWS was formed in 2018 with one of their goals being to help usher in a return to the glory days of South Korean wrestling. From the 1970’s to the 1990’s, pro wrestling was a much more popular industry in the country, even being referred to by some as the country’s national sport during this time period. Stars like Kim Il (known in Japan as Kintaro Ohki and trained by fellow Korean Rikidozan) and Lee Wang-pyo ruled the scene in those days with Kim Il especially being nationally recognized as a hero. PWS has gotten some major publicity in Korea with John Dunbar writing a piece for the Korea Times about a recent event and recent collaborations with TV outlets and famous YouTubers has helped to get some mainstream exposure. The company also made its debut on cable TV in South Korea in March of 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic with a television show that featured some of the young company’s matches from the past.
The event will be live streamed on the PWS YouTube channel for free. It is set to kick off at 3 PM Pyeongtaek time on Sunday, November 14th. Inside the ring, the direction of Pro Wrestling Society will be greatly affected by the result of the evening’s matches as the PWS Championship will be decided in a tournament final on the card. The title became vacant in April of this year when reigning champion Bryan Leo left the company. The two finals competitors will also have to wrestle earlier in the night in a semi-final match in order to advance to the finals. Competing in multiple tournament matches in one night has always been a grueling task. In the A block tournament semifinal, inaugural and the only two time PWS Champion, Jo Kyung Ho, will take on former PWS Tag Team Champion Ha Da On. On the other side of the tournament, current PWS King of Korea Champion Kim Mir and the acrobatically gifted JD Lee will do battle to determine who will have the opportunity to claim the PWS Championship at the end of the night.
Outside of the championship tournament, two additional singles matches and a tag team match are scheduled. The tag team match features one half of the PWS Tag Team Champions, Dr. X, teaming up with Eun Beyond to take on the masked duo of Garuda and Kid Rain. In singles action, Choi Du Euk will face Hyeon Bin. Jin Gae Sung will wrestle the founder of PWS, Shiho, in a second singles match.
PWS was by all accounts gaining some serious momentum when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Now, as the company is preparing to enter a new era with a new champion, this could be the perfect time for new fans to jump on board and be able to easily follow the product. Be sure to subscribe to the PWS YouTube page and check the proper time for streaming in your area for this coming Sunday.
