New champions crowned at CNL Chile’s Night of Champions with high stakes battle royal around the corner
Three championship title belts were on the line at Campeonato Nacional De Lucha’s Noche de Campeones (Night of Champions) in the fifth episode of the third season of their YouTube series that the Santiago, Chile based company started in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the first championship match, Engranaje Jack defended his CNL World Championship against Rocket. Engranaje Jack got an early upper hand after sneak attacking Rocket during his ring entrance. Engranaje didn’t relinquish that advantage for the entirely of the match and Rocket was hardly able to get much offense in at all. Engranaje was able to retain his championship belt and now awaits the winner of the CNL’s upcoming 30 person battle royal set for January 8th.
Between the first and second match, we heard from CNL General Manager, Herco Wisky. Herco provided the viewers and wrestlers of the CNL with an update on some of the rules for the upcoming 30 person battle royal that will decide the number one contender to Engranaje’s CNL World Championship. He shared the news that instead of an entry clock during the January 8th battle royal, wrestlers will enter into the match whenever he decides they will at whatever time interval he pleases. There’s not a battle royal that comes to mind that has had this stipulation in the past so this unique touch should help spice up an already exciting match format.
The CNL Women’s National Championship was also decided in the episode. Coming into the event, the title had been declared vacant and was then contested for in a tournament. Divinna and Nikki were the last two survivors in the tournament and faced off in the second match on the card. In a good match that saw both women exchange offense, Nikki was able to catch Divinna with a spinning back fist after dodging Divinna’s attempt to use the notebook that she carried to the ring with her as a weapon. Nikki then landed her finishing maneuver, driving Divinna into the mat with a big impact and getting the three count to become the new CNL Women’s National Champion.
The main event of the night saw CNL crown their inaugural Escudo National Champion. Escudo is a Chilean beer company that is one of CNL’s top sponsors and the title can be thought of in a similar vein to AEW’s TNT and TBS Titles. Bruno López and Chuck Falcon met to determine the first champion. Bruno showed a lot of charisma and attitude throughout the match and taunted his opponent and the fans throughout. Chuck Falcon showed a lot of passion and fight throughout the bout, at one point ascending to the top rope for a nice looking missile dropkick, but Bruno was able to hit his super cool looking straight jacket piledriver that he calls La Favorita for the win. With the win, Bruno López becomes the inaugural Escudo National Champion.
Coming up now for CNL will be a big 30 competitor battle royal, with GM Herco Wisky deciding entrance order and time for all wrestlers as he sees fit, with a shot at the CNL World Title on the line. That episode is set to premier on January 8th on the CNL YouTube page.
The Chilean wrestling scene is hot right now with shows running nearly every weekend throughout the country. The CNL is considered to be the leader of the pack on the Chilean scene by many. The in ring action is good and the production is on par with major wrestling promotions.
