Pakistan’s REW to receive support from federal government
Pakistan’s Revolution Eastern Wrestling is continuing to expand their reach on the pro wrestling industry around the world. A new major step at home may help those expansion efforts take off even further. We had previously reported that REW was quite possibly the only wrestling promotion in the world receiving support from their country’s federal judiciary. That support from federal governing bodies in their home country will now be coming directly from the federal government, as well.
The Tehreek-e-insaf federal government of Pakistan, the political party of Pakistan’s prime minister Imran Khan, has pledged to support REW. This support will come in the form of the promotion of professional wrestling nationally, support for REW’s future events outside the country in Nepal and Turkey (which are tentatively planned for 2022 but are dependent on the Covid-19 situation), and support for future events in Islamabad (REW is currently based and operating in Karachi). The Tehreek-e-insaf government has even promised the presence of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan in attendance for three future REW events. Sources at REW have pointed out government official Mr. Rana Azam, who is currently serving as the president of the Provisional Coordination Council PTI Labour Wing Sindh, as the official taking the lead on the project and making this support to REW possible. On the REW side, the company’s Fight or Die Champion Xexay has worked hard to help establish this connection and secure support from the federal government.
The federal government support for REW comes at an already exciting time for the company as they gear up to become the first Pakistani wrestling promotion to be featured on television in their home country. Coupled with the company’s plans to head to Turkey for the first time and also return to Nepal in 2022, things are looking promising for the continued growth of pro wrestling in Pakistan. Sources from REW indicated great excitement and pride when discussing the current state of pro wrestling in Pakistan and the new exciting opportunities on the horizon stating, “we started pro wrestling in Pakistan with 0 support and now in four years we have successfully grown pro wrestling in Pakistan.” It will be a lot of fun to see where the next four years take wrestling in Pakistan as more and more support comes on board!
