German Wrestling Federation to hold Light Heavyweight World Cup tournament this weekend

This coming Sunday, March 27, 2022, the German Wrestling Federation will host the Light Heavyweight World Cup. The event will feature an eight competitor tournament between wrestlers from seven different countries, all vying to become the winner of the 2022 Light Heavyweight World Cup.

The structure of the tournament has been laid out by the GWF in multiple posts to their Facebook page. The tournament will feature eight wrestlers representing seven different countries, all competing in one on one singles matches in the first round. The winners of the first round matches will then advance to a four way elimination match to determine the winner of the 2022 Light Heavyweight World Cup.

All four of the first round matches have been announced. Here’s what the first round looks like:

Maverick, representing Hungary, will take on Senza Volto, who will be representing France.

Michael Oku, also known as the OJMO, will be representing England and will take on the German hometown hero Fast Time Moodo.

Crowchester will be fighting to take the trophy home to Kazakhstan while the well traveled Anarko Montaña will attempt to win the whole tournament for his home country of Chile.

In the last of the four first round matches, Turkey’s Aytac Bahar will take on the second entrant from England, Corey McRae.

As mentioned earlier, the four winners will then advance to a four way elimination match in which the championship trophy will be decided. The entire tournament will be completed by the end of the night.

Outside of the excitement of the World Cup tournament, the international flare of the night is also reflected in the scheduled GWF Women’s Championship match. Austria’s Jessy Jay will defend the title against Hungary’s Iva Kolasky, who had held the women’s championship in Germany’s wXw until earlier this month.

German Wrestling Federation Champion Axel Tischer is also scheduled to be on hand as is UK pro wrestling legend Doug Williams. Also advertised for the card are GWF Tag Team Champion Ronaldo Shaqiri, Pascal Spalter, and Erkan Sulcani.

Some new COVID-related safety protocols have recently been put in place for the event so be sure to check out GWF on Facebook or Instagram to get the latest updates on fan requirements for the event. As of the last update from GWF, 50 tickets remain for this exciting event. You can purchase yours by clicking here.
