Various updates on the pro wrestling scene in Nepal: big crowds, bloody brawls and major upcoming events

Pro wrestling is immensely popular in Nepal right now. Three of the country’s four active promotions have recently been in action or have an event planned that’s coming up soon. Let’s check in with the latest pro wrestling updates in the South Asian country.

Ultimate Wrestling Entertainment draws big crowd in city of Tokha

UWE rolled through the city of Tokha on August 26th for an outdoor event that drew a big crowd. Amongst the wrestlers in action were Nepali fan favorites Thagu, The Yuv, Baba Bui, The Warrior and Lady Dragon. UWE is probably the promotion with the hardest edge in the country, frequently featuring more hardcore matches and more blood than the others. That edge was on display in multiple matches at this event. The Yuv brawled inside and outside the ring, using weapons and coming out on top. Thagu took on King Cobra and that match featured some weapons including fluorescent light tubes and interference from The Yuv. Thagu’s back was covered in blood before hitting a spine buster for the win. Lady Dragon faced an uphill battle in the main event as well. The centerpiece of UWE had to fight off several interfering enemies in an inter gender match. Lady Dragon didn’t appear to get busted open in this match but in the past, she has not shown a hesitancy to bleed and withstand dangerous weapons to get the job done. BJAMS Vlog on YouTube was able to catch the whole Tokha UWE event and you can check that out below. UWE will be back in action in the city of Dhulikhel this coming Saturday, September 17.

Nepal Women Wrestling Foundation plans two day event with international wrestlers advertised

Nepal’s resident women’s wrestling promotion is planning a big two day event for the 24th and 25th of September. The NWWF is tagging the event Royal Rumble and the show is set to feature both Nepali and international wrestlers in both the women’s and men’s division. So far, three matches have been announced for the two day show. Nepal’s first female wrestler, Bhagwati Khadka Unika will face off with Tarlee from Australia. Unika was scheduled to wrestle for Deathmatch Down Under in Australia back in July but unfortunately the event had to be canceled. It’s unknown if the plan was for Unika and Tarlee to meet in Australia but this could be a match that’s been anticipated between these two for a while. Asmita Jureli, the popular wrestler/model/social media personality, will take on the Mexican luchadora Zafiro. Jureli scored a big win against another North American opponent within the last year, having defeated JC Storm in Nepal back in December of 2021. Storm has made multiple appearances on AEW Dark Elevation over the last few months after her trip to Nepal. The third match announced so far features Nepali Bro, the star male wrestler of the NWWF, taking on JB Cool of the United States in what is being advertised as a “blood match.” This will likely be a hardcore match as the term “blood match” can be interchangeable with those types of matches in Nepal. Also announced for the event are representatives from Pakistan’s Revolution Eastern Wrestling including Pakistan’s first martial artist pro wrestler, Talha Ali, and REW Asian Champion Sher Khan.

Flyers for the upcoming two day NWWF event scheduled for September 24th and 25th.

Nepal Ring Wrestling Association set for return to action on October 8

The Nepal Ring Wrestling Association is set to get back into the ring on October 8th in Shivapuri. It will be their first event since July when NRWA held their fourth annual National Championship. The NRWA is the only promotion in Nepal that’s recognized by the country’s National Sports Council, giving it a unique status on the country’s wrestling scene that requires wrestlers to be exclusive to the organization. The NRWA has several international partnerships and has worked with, or has agreements in place with, promotions such as China’s Middle Kingdom Wrestling, Japan’s Pro Wrestling Zero1 and Malaysia’s APAC Wrestling. The in ring product is usually of a high quality and events will typically feature a wide variety of match styles. That is the case for this upcoming October 8th event as a lightweight match, female match, tag team match, triple threat hardcore match and heavyweight championship match are all planned. All of the NRWA’s top stars are expected to be in action including CJ World, Tanu, Chattan, David, Shine, King Robert and the NRWA Heavyweight Champion Nuwakote Tiger.
