One of Russia’s biggest pro wrestling events of the year is this weekend

St. Petersburg’s Northern Storm Wrestling will be in action on November 20th for what they’re calling their biggest show of the year, The Battle on the Neva (the Neva is a river located in St. Petersburg). There is not expected to be a capacity limitation at the Battle on the Neva but NSW will be complying with Russian government rules and regulations for having a Covid-free event. Meaning that those entering the venue must either show proof of vaccination, proof of exemption from vaccination or a negative PCR Covid test taken within 3 days of the event.

Match-wise, the billing of The Battle on the Neva as the biggest event of the year for the company is right in line with what has been announced for the show. Several titles and title opportunities will be on the line. In what could be the most exciting match of the night, a 7 wrestler ladder match is set to take place with the winner being declared after a briefcase is retrieved from the top of the ladder. The winner will receive a title shot at an NSW title of their choice. So far announced to participate in the match are Judge Ned, Andrei Shcherbakov, Sigurd, Retromen, Rob, Die Young Sanchez and an as of yet unannounced mystery opponent. As wrestling fans know, ladder matches often have the potential to create explosive and memorable moments.

Also planned for the event is a women’s championship title match between Elita and Abby. Elita is a former long time NSW Women’s Champion and will be attempting to recapture the title that she covets. Abby, on the other hand, will do her best to prove that she deserves to hold the championship belt that she is currently carrying.

Continuing on with the theme of “big event,” there are two more championship matches and another match with a career on the line. In tag team action, the team of O.B.K.A. featuring the mixed gender duo of Sergey Safiulin and Valeria O’Shea will challenge the team of Envil and Ronnie Crimson for the NSW tag team championship.

Dmitry Donsky and Egor Sokolov will be continuing their year long feud in a match with the highest stakes between the two yet. If Sokolov loses, he will be forced to leave Northern Storm Wrestling for good. Surely, Sokolov will bring unmatched desperation and intensity to this match to ensure that his career in St. Petersburg can continue.

One of the biggest stories in NSW this year has been the tournament to crown the first ever NSW North Champion. That tournament will conclude at The Battle On The Neva when the massive and powerful Dizaster will get his first crack at a title in NSW against Ruslan “Akela” Angelov in the final. Angelov, on the other hand, knows what it takes to win a championship, being a previous holder of the NSW Championship in a reign that lasted over a year. Can Angelov’s experience and championship pedigree overcome Dizaster’s size and power?

The night’s main event will see the NSW Championship defended in a triple threat match between current, and only two time NSW Champion ever, Shaman, Anatoly Moroz and Sweep. In an added stipulation, if Moroz doesn’t win the championship belt in this triple threat match, he can never challenge for the NSW Championship again. Certainly very high stakes for Moroz who will likely be at his best given that this could be his last shot at the NSW title. Can Shaman continue his record breaking second reign as champion with two hungry challengers breathing down his neck? We’ll find that answer out on Saturday!

NSW recently uploaded the lead-up event to the Battle on the Neva, the title of which is roughly translated to The Storm Before The Battle, to their YouTube channel. You can check that out below. Sources from NSW have confirmed with WrestleMap that the Battle on the Neva full show will make it to the company’s YouTube page relatively soon after the completion of the event. They’re also set to live stream the event on their YouTube starting at 6PM (18:00) St. Petersburg time. Be sure to subscribe to their YouTube channel and figure out the proper time conversion for your area if you plan to watch live!
