UK wrestling’s famous Knight family teams up with South Africa’s Champions Pro Wrestling to create World Association of Wrestling South Africa

Big news coming out of South Africa and the United Kingdom. The South African company once known as Champions Pro Wrestling, and before that World Wrestling Professionals, has taken to their social media to share the news that they’ll be linking up with World Association of Wrestling out of the United Kingdom to create World Association of Wrestling South Africa.

The original World Association of Wrestling, based in Norwich, was founded back in 1994 by “Rowdy” Ricky Knight, his wife “Sweet” Saraya Knight and Ricky Knight’s longtime tag team partner, Jimmy Ocean. The Knight family would famously carry on the family business as Zak Zodiac (Zak Knight) has become a well known British wrestler in his own right while his sister Saraya (formerly Paige in WWE) has gone on to win world championships in the big leagues and become a world famous wrestler who recently made her return from an early retirement to become the AEW Women’s Champion.

The relationship between the two sides blossomed earlier this year when reigning CPW All Africa Champion (which will likely be changing to the WAW All Africa Championship, however, no official announcement on title belts has come from WAW SA yet) TJ Tremor headed to the United Kingdom to compete on a tour with WAW. While there, Tremor feuded with PJ Knight and the two would trade the All Africa Championship back and forth until Tremor would recapture it prior to heading back home to South Africa.

Ricky and Zak Knight appeared in a video posted to the World Association of Wrestling South Africa Instagram page, hyping some interesting news that will be coming down the line that will ostensibly be related to some WAW UK wrestlers, perhaps the Knight family themselves, making appearances in South Africa.

While this is surely a headline grabber for the former Champions Pro Wrestling, they’re not unaccustomed to making big moves in the past. The South African promotion has been regularly featured on television in both their home country and in India and their yearly mega event Wrestle Monster always draws a big crowd. They also recently announced the launch of a new television program on South Africa’s Mpuma Kapa TV with episodes airing every Wednesday from 9 to 10 PM.

Stay tuned to the WAW and WAW SA social media sites for more official updates!
