Vietnam Pro Wrestling holds Vietnam’s first rumble match

On Friday, August 19th, Vietnamese pro wrestling history was made. For the first time in the country’s pro wrestling history, an over the top battle royal match was held. This historic first rumble style match came as part of the Rooster Rumble event that was held at the BLOQ Lifestyle Retail Park in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Rooster Rumble was sponsored by Vietnamese beer company Rooster Beers and the event had free entry for fans. Speaking of fans, the event had a great turnout, with BLOQ filled in nicely with fans ready for a monumental night in Vietnamese pro wrestling.

The rumble match featured fifteen competitors and the stakes were high. The winner of the match would be rewarded with a trophy but even more importantly, a contract to cash in for a shot at any of VPW’s championship belts.

The historic rumble match was eventually won by Damien Wolfe who outlasted 14 other competitors to win the historic first-of-a-kind bout. Damien will now have an opportunity to challenge for any of the VPW title belts, possibly as soon as the upcoming VPW Saturday Showdown event which is scheduled for September 17th.

In other action at Rooster Rumble, Dominick and D. Austin met in a singles match. The Vietnam Pro Wrestling Tag Team Championships were also on the line, as Mystic Warriors (the team of Rykioh and Xiumin) successfully defended their titles against Hy Draco and Kira. The VPW Openweight Title belt was also up for grabs but reigning champion Le Tyler continued his reign after defeating Rocky Huynh.

We were able to find some highlight clips of the action, but otherwise, the full event video has not been made available by VPW. Chances are good that Rooster Rumble will eventually end up on the Vietnam Pro Wrestling YouTube page, so be sure to subscribe so you can check this historic match.
