Sweden’s Freedom Pro launches tournament to crown first champion

A tournament is underway in Stockholm, Sweden to find the first champion of Freedom Pro Wrestling.

The first round of the tournament kicked off at Hunger For Gold on September 17, 2022 at Subtopia in Stockholm. The tournament field included some surprises and one half of the championship tournament final was decided in the night’s main event.

In first round tournament action, Strangler ended up taking on a mystery opponent of his choice who was revealed to be Strangler Jr.. Strangler unsurprisingly won the match and advanced to the triple threat main event where the winner would earn a spot in the tournament final championship match.

Also in first round action, Sweden’s Aliss Ink defeated Dirty Jack Jones, earning a spot in the main event. Stanislaw Van Dobroniak did the same with a win over Demon Lock in first round action.

While the initial bouts and main event focused on the championship tournament, the midcard featured a series of matches featuring wrestlers from the Scandinavian wrestling scene and beyond. Freedom Pro shared the following results in a post to their Instagram page.

  • EXE defeated Herco Wisky. Herco Wisky is based out of Argentina but was on an European tour that included stops in the UK, Sweden, Romania and more.

  • Ender Kara defeated Fayyez Aguila. Both wrestlers are of Turkish descent with Kara being based in Stockholm, Sweden and Aguila currently competing out of Essen, Germany.

  • Marcus of Man defeated Viggen. Marcus of Man originally hails from the Isle of Man and is now based in Stockholm, Sweden. Viggen, who is also known as Victor Volt, is a Freedom Pro regular who has also competed in Denmark and Finland in the past.

  • Frank Ratel defeated Köttfärs. Köttfärs is a Swedish wrestler best known for his appearances with STHLM Wrestling who are also based in Stockholm. Frank Ratel is a regular in Freedom Pro and other Swedish independent companies.

The night’s main event featured a triple threat between the three first round tournament winners from earlier in the event, Strangler, Aliss Ink and Stanislaw Van Dobroniak. Despite Strangler and Van Dobroniak being closely aligned, the skilled martial artist Aliss Ink was able to fight through the numbers disadvantage and pin Strangler to advance to the tournament final.

Following the match, Strangler, Strangler Jr. and Stanislaw Van Dobroniak caught up with Aliss Ink backstage. Stan reasoned with Aliss that since she didn’t pin him, he should get a shot to face her one on one for the opportunity to advance to the tournament final. Aliss agreed and the match is set for the next Freedom Pro show.

Speaking of the next Freedom Pro show, that has been announced for November 26th. The first round of the tournament to find the first Freedom Pro Champion will continue there as Marcus of Man, Viggen and EXE have all been announced as part of the next batch of first round contenders so far.

Be sure to give Freedom Pro Wrestling a follow on Instagram to keep up with what else is in store for the remainder of the tournament to find the company’s first champion and the recently announced November 26th show!
