Rivals Wrestling in Scotland set to make history with main event double title match to determine new African continental champion

MAIN EVENT ANNOUNCED – SCOTLAND V NIGERIA – DOUBLE CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER TAKES ALL

On Saturday 17 December 2022, Rivals Gym and the Scottish town of Wishaw (Camas Neachdain) will go down in the annals of professional wrestling history.

Rivals Wrestling, the professional wrestling training and live events promotion based out of its fully owned and managed Performance Centre & Sports Arena on Wishaw Main Street have announced the main event of its Rivals Wrestling For Charity debut-launch event, which is raising funds for Scottish Families Affected By Alcohol & Drugs.

Scotsman Frankie Mooney will go head-to-head against Nigerian Champion Ubaha Martin and the stakes could not be any higher.

The CADC have agreed to terms on the sanctioning of its World Heavyweight Championship title in the international match-up which will see Wishaw host the most coveted title on the African continent. Also, on the line in the same match will be the vacant Rivals World Heavyweight Championship making it a Double Championship contest where Winner Takes All.

In the red corner is Ubaha Martin, an Olympic and Commonwealth Championship wrestler, an Undisputed African Heavyweight Champion and current UPW World Heavyweight Champion. He has been selected specifically by CADC and we can see why. A victory in this match would secure him two further titles resulting in a career pinnacle of being the only sportsman from the African continent to attain the title ‘Champion de la Triple Couronne’ ie. Triple Crown Champion.

In the blue corner is Frankie Mooney, a former British Junior Champion of the sport. He holds multiple black belts in the martial arts and is known as ‘The Shootfighter’. Since leaving the UK to set his sights on international competition, Frankie has travelled extensively to find it and is no stranger to the African continent, winning the Kumite Tournament in Nigeria in 2014.

The CADC title has never been seen or contested outside of the continent, weighs just over 3kg and comprises of gold as well as precious and semi-precious gemstones. The title has great significance and protection from eminent heads of State. With formal terms now set, Officials will make the trip to Scotland to sanction the title for the very first time outside of the continent for international competition.

Official terms set for the main-event match are as follows:

  • The match will be Double-Championship Winner Takes All.

  • Scheduled For One Fall with a 12 minute time limit.

What is CADC?

Confederation Africaine De Catch is the official governing body of professional wrestling in Africa recognised by Federal Government.

The history of CADC is deeply rooted in combat and heritage, dating back hundreds of years.

It is made up of 18 member states representing countries across the African continent. Each member state operates a district league to determine who will compete in the Super League. The winner of the Super League is the number one contender for the CADC World Heavyweight Championship and presents themselves as the ‘champion of champions’. The CADC is the top title in Africa.

The CADC World Heavyweight Championship is said to be adorned with precious and semi-precious gemstones sourced from Africa’s most rarest mining facilities. Alongside them feature the great animals of Africa which symbolise deep significant meaning as explained by CADC Governing Body Secretary General. “A single elephant can make the forest shake to its very roots.” This is Yoruba saying from Nigeria and notes the elephant is without equal and beyond measure. “The elephant never tires carrying its tusks.” Is a Duala proverb from Cameroon referring to responsibility and that “Every rhinoceros is proud of its horn.” This Is a well-known proverb in African culture. The Giraffe teaches us to always raise your head high and see with vision. Giraffe’s with their long necks reach for the best leaves. If you reach where no one else can, you will eat like no one else can.

Having the opportunity to see this belt in person is an experience alone and the contest coming to Scotland makes this a once in a lifetime opportunity.
