NATIONAL SECURITY, PEACE AND UNITY WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP FOR JUNE 13TH IN ABUJA IS CERTAIN- John Uche
‘’Nothing will change it’’
High Chief John Uche, the president of the Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation, while addressing the media over the weekend, emphasized that: ‘’holding the National Security, Peace and Unity wrestling Championship is our own way of contributing to the national unity, security development and enhancing peace in our societies. Peace and unity of the nation should be everybody’s concern. What is obtainable today by living in peace with ourselves has been some handworks of some people trying to make sure peace reigns. Even after the civil war, we thought we had learnt our lessons which is not so. We all need to live in peace and harmony. No alternative to peace’’.
The federation’s president explained further that ‘’Nigerians need peace to live together and we want to use that to bring the world’s top rated wrestlers and the home based talents together to have this timely championship. Sports have been a greater promoter of peace over the years and this championship will not be an exemption to that. Sport is a compelling tool to promote peace, tolerance, and understanding, bringing people together across boundaries, cultures, and religions. Its values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline, and respect are understood all over the world and can be utilized in the advancement of solidarity and social cohesion. There is no way we can celebrate under the disguise of crisis rather than in peace. We want peace. The insecurity in the Nigerian nation is giving us nightmares, some of us can no longer sleep well and we believe that once peace reigns, things flourish as expected’’.
In preparation for this timely championship, a trophy has been made available to be contested for by the pro wrestlers, who are very ready and prepared. The trophy has been presented to the honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Mohammed Musa Bello, the chief host of the championship. The NPWF has established a close liaison with the National Assembly, as well as the presidency, for endorsement of the championship so that all hands can be on deck to execute this timely championship.
Professional wrestlers across the nation have been enjoined to lace up their boots and get prepared in this timely championship coming up on the Democracy Day in Nigeria, which is June 12. Until June 6, 2018, democracy day was held annually on May 29th. Nigeria’s Democracy Day is a public holiday to commemorate the restoration of democracy in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. These were done to commemorate the democratic election of MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993 in what has been adjudged to be Nigeria’s freest and fairest election.
Chief Vincent Dimanozie (Iron Bone), the Technical Adviser of the federation boasted that his wrestlers in Lagos, Onitsha and Abuja are in good shape and training hard to show the hard stuff they are made of during the Abuja championship in barely a month. He also stated that the fans will see new pro wrestling gimmicks like never before.
Pastor Elephando Bassey, the grand wizard of African pro wrestling, who also doubles as the secretary general of the Federation, also bare his mind. ‘’This event will be one of the best events Nigeria will ever showcase. All the wrestlers are in good shape; they have trained hard, and are ready to contribute their quota to promote the peace and unity of the Nigerian nation by displaying how beautiful professional wrestling is to the teeming fans as well as the dignitaries that will grace the occasion.
Aliking De Action Disaster of NSCDC, based in Abuja, who will also be participating in the championship, has sent note of warning that cowards need not apply to participate in the Abuja championship where he is based. Though he does not know his opponent yet, he is over prepared to guard his domain and get set since it will not be reasonable for a wrestler from Lagos, Onitsha, Owerri or any part of the nation to come to Abuja, the centre of Unity where he is based, and cart away the Trophy for the National Security, Peace and Unity Wrestling Championship.
All hands should indeed be on deck to have a great championship in Abuja come June 13 while looking up to all concerns on this timely event to sincerely work together to enable us to have a great event. There can never be another time than now to promote the national security, Peace and Unity that have eluded us in the Nigerian nation.
