New Zealand’s champions stand tall at Fallout

Jamie Tagataese was able to continue his reign atop New Zealand pro wrestling on Saturday but it wasn’t easy. In a completely insane Last Man Standing match at Impact Pro Wrestling’s Fallout from the Mt. Eden War Memorial Hall in Auckland, The Big Man (as Tagataese is known) was able to keep his opponent Niwa down for the count after the two of them went through Hell.

Tagataese is currently the top champion in both Impact and New Zealand’s other major independent promotion, Southern Pro Wrestling. The undisputed champion of New Zealand definitely had his work cut out for him in the clips that we’ve seen. Chains, tables, metal platforms, and chairs all became involved in this one. But in the end, The Big Man is still, without a doubt, the big man of New Zealand pro wrestling.

Elsewhere on the card, New Zealand’s women’s champion Frankie Quinn was able to hold off former champion Candy Lee to successfully defend the title. Quinn won the title in March of this year, putting an end to Candy Lee’s previous record breaking title reign. With Candy Lee out of the title picture for now, another contender has an opportunity to emerge and take a swing at Quinn and her championship.

The IPW New Zealand Tag Team Titles were also on the line at the event. The defending champions were able to retain the title belts, but not quite with a resounding win. Instead, the team of charismatic cult leader James Shaw and MAGA sympathizer Sir Mr. Burns was able to get disqualified but hang on to their titles. The duo had the crowd worked up before the match, with Burns parroting the MAGA movement’s talking points to an incensed crowd.

Check below for complete results from Saturday’s Fallout event and give IPW a follow to keep up with what’s next. So far, the company has The Eliminator planned for June in Auckland which will see a twenty person battle royal with an opportunity to challenge Jamie Tagataese for the IPW New Zealand Championship on the line. Speaking of The Big Man, he’ll be in action again next Saturday at the bottom of New Zealand for Southern Pro Wrestling.
