REW Pakistan title changes hands despite ongoing Covid-19 hiatus
Revolution Eastern Wrestling has stayed busy during their recent forced hiatus due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the area. Whether they’ve been planning for the future by scheduling a joint show with the Turkish Wrestling Alliance or teasing Kurt Angle’s REW debut, REW is staying busy given the limited options that are available to them during Covid-19 lockdown.
Though the South Asian company is unable to do anything in the ring or in front of a crowd for the time being, that hasn’t stopped them from advancing their storylines and seeing a title change hands.
In the video below, The Kovu Brandon turns on his D.E.X. stablemate and Fight or Die Champion, Raja Naveed, while visiting with the REW chairman, Wahib Jamal Awan. After Kovu Brandon leaves his former mate laying, Chairman Awan orders the incapacitated Raja Naveed to defend his Fight or Die Championship on the spot. That’s when Xekay is called in to the chairman’s office and basically gifted with the Fight or Die Title.
The title win is the first of Xekay’s three year career. While normally we would congratulate a new champion here on WrestleMap, it’s hard to offer congratulations when the title victory is the result of what appears to be a dubious scheme. The fact that Xekay’s first title win came as the result of a backhanded scheme like this one isn’t that surprising though. If you’ll recall, the last time we covered Xekay on this site was after Pakistan’s first female wrestler, Shioshi Muhammad, made her debut by attacking him after Xekay insulted the female gender as a whole. So questionable behavior is not out of character for Xekay. It will be interesting to see how Raja Naveed will respond to losing his title in such a controversial way. And what’s next for Kovu Brandon? Is he aligned with Xekay and Chairman Wahib Jamal Awan? Knowing REW’s desire to continue to entertain their fans, even under difficult circumstances, chances are we won’t have to wait too long to find out.
