The National Security, Peace and Unity Pro Wrestling Championship has come and gone but the exposure, new ideas, pro wrestling developments, nice feelings, way forward and new champions which emerged after the competition cannot be over emphasized.

We have not really had a big time championship in Abuja in recent times. The last big time wrestling contest held in Abuja was seventeen years ago, which is indeed a long time, so one should not expect magic now when hosting a pro wrestling show as the fans will be brought back gradually with constant pro wrestling contests.

The first match of the night was a great show as Flying Danko was called into the ring first before Rasman Iron, who has been competing in Onitsha and has never been featured in any Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation championship to date. Flying Danko was initially attacked in his room the night before the event by Rasman Iron. Rasman is a Rastafarian by the definition of the word as a member of the Rastafarian religious movement. Rastafarians have distinctive codes of behaviour and dress, including the wearing of dreadlocks and the smoking of cannabis, and they follow a diet that excludes pork, shellfish, and milk, though we didn’t see Rastaman smoking cannabis before or after the event.

Flying Danko reigned supreme and shined as an acrobatic wrestler before the Rastaman came back to himself and before Danko realized what had happened, Rasman had scored a pinfall that went for the three count, though some fans at the arena felt the counting was too fast and that there was more to the match’s finish than meets the eye, but the deed had been done.

The second bout of the night saw Captain Dunga slugging it out with Strongbone Erujeje. Erujeje is a Yoruba word meaning fright, which is a sudden intense feeling of fear. Strongbone spoke before the match started, noting that: ‘’my dry bone has risen again. The lost glory of professional wrestling has returned back to Nigeria. We Nigerian wrestlers can match up with American wrestlers if the opportunity avails and we will leave no stone unturned to achieve talent exchange programs internationally.’’ The two heavyweight superstars were equally matched and up to the task as Strongbone dealt with Dunga, who regained consciousness following some stiff offense from Strongbone, and also treated Strongbone with indignity, not minding that Strongbone holds seniority over him in the game and that, that should be an advantage for him. Dunga pinned Strongbone twice and Strongbone forcefully kicked out before the count of three. Strongbone slammed Dunga and pinned him for the three count and it was over. Strongbone then collected the microphone and commented that the dry bone has indeed and in truth arose. Rasman then made his way out to the ring and challenged Strongbone, stating that he will indeed find a good match in him whenever the opportunity comes and on behalf of his friend Captain Dunga, he will get revenge.

The third bout of the night showcased another dimension of the Nigerian professional wrestling scenes which has never happened in the history of the game in Nigeria. Three ladies fighting each other at once. The first ever Nigerian women’s wrestling triple threat match! Alexander the Queen came into the ring, then Iron Lady Becky, followed by Stylish ‘’J’’. Lady Becky was handling Alexandra in a revengeful manner following her loss to Alexandra in March when Stylish J came in, slammed Becky and when she got up, threw her outdo the ring. The match was so interesting that it went on for 10 minutes before the referee asked the time keeper to ring the bell as it ended on a time limit draw, though they did continue the fight outside the ring on their way to the dressing room.

The tag team bout of the night featured the Dakkada Thunders and De Grippers. The two teams were equally matched as they both understood the tactics and competencies involved in tag team wrestling based on the experiences they have acquired over the years. The duo of Mr. Sharpman and the Powerful Young Mike gave out their best to the appreciation of the fans who really clapped and cherished the skills of De Grippers who could not grip the Dakkada Thunders. The Dakkada Thunders, made up of Zion Lion and Power Vic, also could not strike, so the match ended in a time limit draw.

Mighty Progress might be new in the professional wrestling industry but the lad indeed has some innovative ideas that he has been displaying to the world of late and which are well appreciated. If Aliking had not been De Action Disaster/the grandmaster of the game he is, Mighty Progress would have taken the upper hand but Aliking was up to the task and he out-maneuvered him, slamming him thrice before going for the three count which made him become the National Security, Peace and Unity Pro wrestling Trophy winner.

The last bout of the night saw the Great Mosendo and the Mighty Man, who are both in the heavyweight category, slugging it out together. Mosendo, who was in camouflage trousers and soldier boots, said he is a Buffalo soldier while Mighty Man is a bloody civilian. The Nigeria Pro Wrestling Heavyweight title was at stake during this timely bout, a fact that was revealed at the start of the event by the NPWF. Great Mosendo, who was trained by Ananzi in South Africa, displayed pro wrestling gimmicks that he had learned internationally while Mighty Man, trained by home based Elephando Bassey in Lagos, Nigeria (the grand wizard of African pro-wrestling) was also ready to compete fairly for the title. Mosendo tried all he could by displaying a magnificent series of pro wrestling moves and delivering a series of hard chops to the chest of Mighty Man. Mosendo climbed the rope to descend on Mighty Man, who dodged it then pinned Mosendo. Mighty Man won the match and became the Nigerian Pro Wrestling Heavyweight champion.
