Pro wrestling expanding into South India; Rancor Fighters is first pro wrestling organization in South Indian state of Kerala
Pro wrestling continues to expand into South India. Not too long ago, we reported on the first pro wrestling match to ever take place in South India. That match was held by the DMS Academy of Pro Wrestling in July 2019 in the South Indian state of Karnataka.
Now, just about two years later, we are seeing the continued expansion of pro wrestling into South India. That expansion is continuing with a new wrestling promotion, Rancor Fighters, which is located even further south in the Indian state of Kerala. Rancor Fighters are the first pro wrestling company to be based in the state of Kerala and are preparing for an official launch.
As of now, things are in the building phase for the new company. Training is getting started for some local Kerala students and the company is even offering free training and free ring access to some qualifying students, as per their webpage.
The group has also introduced their title belt, the first ever wrestling title in Kerala, which will aptly be called the Kerala Championship.
The new organization is being headed up by Arun Haridas and Vineeth Antony. Arun is the first ever Kerala-born pro wrestler. He has wrestled for India’s top independent promotion, Wrestle Square, and was trained by Indian wrestler Baliyan Akki, who has been having a good deal of success in Japan as of late himself. Vineeth is the first wrestling YouTuber based in Kerala and is training to become a pro wrestler and will be an active wrestler in Rancor Fighters. The original idea to start a wrestling promotion in Kerala came from one of Vineeth’s videos, according to the Rancor Fighters website.
Although the Kerala-based wrestlers will still need some more time to train, the wrestlers section of the Rancor Fighters website does include a few familiar faces from the South Asian wrestling scene. Some of the wrestles include Arjun Warrior, who has wrestled in Wrestle Square, and Tanu, a female wrestler from Nepal who competes in the Nepal Ring Wrestling Association.
As for a debut, the new company has announced that their first event will be titled Desert Storm and will include a tournament to crown the first Rancor Fighters Kerala Champion. Rancor Fighters has yet to release an official date for the debut show but they have advised, that due to the current Covid-19 situation in the area, they will not be able to have live fans in attendance. The event is expected to be released on YouTube for fan viewing two days following the completion of the event. That’s something we’ll be sure to keep an eye out for in order to keep WrestleMap readers updated but it does sound like it’s something we can expect sooner rather than later.
Overall, the establishment of Rancor Fighters in South India is a development that we are thrilled to see here at WrestleMap. The continued expansion and development of pro wrestling around the world is one of our favorite topics and one that we will never grow tired of discussing. We wish nothing but luck to Rancor Fighters as they start this new journey as Kerala’s first wrestling promotion!
