‘’BATTLEGROUND WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIP 2021 WILL SETTLE OLD SCORES’’- MR. SHARPMAN

‘’I am now sharper than [a] knife and that is the ultimate reason that has made me to go in search of glory on my own. I don’t need to be told that I am a good and talented pro wrestling superstar. Tag team wrestling has tied me down to a spot over the years and i’ve got to liberate myself. The right time is now. Solo action is my focus now and that is what will make me become the Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation (NPWF) Light heavyweight champion and title holder this year and I will definitely claim it during the Battleground Wrestling Championship where lots of old unsettled scores will be settled. I deserve it. This is the set time.’’

Those are the words of Mr. Sharpman whose real name is Augustine Okafor and who came to Lagos in 1984 from Oporo in Orlu, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State where he was born on the 15th August, 1972. The state, which is one of the 36 States of Nigeria, is located in the southeast region of the country. Formed in 1976 when it split from the former East-Central State, Imo State is bordered by Abia State on the east, Delta State to the West, Anambra State on the north, and Rivers State to the south.

Sharpman, who specializes in making mincemeat out of opponents in the ring, is an over three decades pro wrestling veteran who doesn’t need to be told what to do in the ring. He has pounded plenty of his challengers and his skills and agility have won him many admirers.

Sharpman is referred to as the ‘’Excellence of Execution’’ and his Excellency should be crowned with a national title in the soonest possible time. He has a spectacular way of wrestling as I have never seen anyone combine this level of gymnastic ability, martial arts skill and pro style of wrestling with such awesome effectiveness before.

He is a powerful master of the game. He is a great wrestler of all time who has been making life miserable for his numerous opponents in Nigerian squared circles and even beyond having competed in Ghana against Tya Mupepe of Congo DR at Accra in 2007 and in Cameroon against Kirikou during the Battle of Yaoundé of 2015.

Sharppey, as he is fondly called by other wrestlers, was trained by Lion Bone in 1989 at the National Stadium before Jimmy Palm ‘’The African Dream’’ did the finishing touch and impacted him with pro wrestling skills which turned him to a super star which he also impacted to wrestlers like De Miser, Flying Bird and Super J5.

Sharpman, who had Mike Bing of Congo DRC as his first opponent in 1992, lists Stephen Mba of Cameroon as his toughest opponent to date. He wrestled with Mba during the BRF Wrestlemania of 2012 in Lagos, Nigeria.

Sharpman, who has created a place for himself in the tag team wrestling hall of fame with multiple partners including his long time partner Super Fryo (Friday Ugah), Young Power Mike (Mike Okoli) and later Zion Lion (Sunday Dan Philip), is finally done with tag teaming. He feels he needs his freedom to fight solo so as to be able to achieve his dream of clinching the NPWF National Light heavyweight title belt. He feels he is burying his talents in a tag team and want to go solo, then compete continentally and finally internationally.

We can only wish Mr. Sharpman, who is a fine wrestler indeed and in truth, all the best in his endeavors to clinch the national light heavyweight title and compete continentally and internationally.
