A feature film following a fictional account of the life and career of the founder of the Malaysian pro wrestling scene, Shaukat, is set to hit theaters nationwide in Malaysia on January 13, 2022. In the film, Shaukat plays a wrestler named Naga. According to this article by Malaysia’s The Sun Daily, “the story is about a wrestler named Naga (Ayez), who loses his will to fight after losing his world championship title. However, two of his biggest fans refuse to give up on him and encourage Naga to once again rise and climb up the ranks to reclaim his title.” The official trailer for the film has been released and can be viewed below. The film is in the Malay language but the trailer has English subtitles.

The film is set to feature several wrestlers from Malaysia’s APAC Wrestling. A recent Facebook post from APAC Wrestling shared more details about the wrestlers and APAC Wrestling staff set to make appearances in the film. That post shared the following information regarding other APAC Wrestling stars to keep an eye out for:

Gula Gusti will be Malaysia’s first feature film about pro wrestling. Malaysian pro wrestling has recently begun to gain more national prominence in Malaysia with one Malaysian politician even proposing that it should be broadcast on national television. Hopefully Gila Gusti will help the Malaysian pro wrestling scene grow even more in mainstream popularity in Malaysia with more fans getting an opportunity to see what pro wrestling is all about. There is no word yet on when or if the film will be released internationally or when or if a streaming version of the film will be made available. Congratulations to Shaukat and all of APAC Wrestling on this big feature film release and good luck to them at the box office this coming January!

January 10, 2022 Update: APAC Wrestling has announced the decision to postpone release of the film to March 17th, 2022 in order to dedicate their time to helping in the relief of flood victims in Malaysia.
