Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation celebrates 40th anniversary this year

2021 marks FORTY years of pro wrestling action from Nigeria! The Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation, formerly known as the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, was founded in 1981. The promotion has since changed their name to emphasize the “pro” aspect of the wrestling that they do in order to avoid confusion with Nigeria’s amateur wrestling body, which also came to be known as the Nigeria Wrestling Federation.

In order to celebrate the momentous occasion of their 40th anniversary, the NPWF is expected to hold some type of celebratory event later on this year. Nothing official has been announced as of yet but we will keep you posted on any official announcements coming from the Nigerian company.

In the meantime, to help celebrate the ruby anniversary of NPWF, we’ll be sharing some artifacts that we come across here and there throughout the rest of the year. After all, it is very rare for a pro wrestling organization to last forty years! When they do, it gives us a great reason for celebration.

The first artifact that we’ll share is a unique match that we’ve tracked down on YouTube. While we don’t know for certain that others haven’t happened, this is the first and only cage match taking place on the continent of Africa that we have come across. Enjoy this classic cage match between Fancy and Triger (year unknown) and join us in wishing a happy 40th anniversary to the Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation!
