Nigerian Pro-wrestling Federation set to stage “Battleground Championship” in April
THE Nigerian Pro-Wrestling Federation said on Friday at a press briefing that it had concluded arrangements to stage the maiden Battleground Wrestling Championship 2021 in April.
Its president, High Chief John Uche, told the Wrestle Map chief correspondent in Africa Olusesan Olukoya in Lagos that the event would be launched in Abuja on March 13th by the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR.
Uche said the championship, which would begin properly from April 10 and end on May 1, would be staged in six states. The states are Lagos, Delta, Kano, Ebonyi, Imo and Akwa Ibom. He said: “our forthcoming pro-wrestling fight against corruption tagged ’’Battleground 2021’’ will be unveiled by President of the Nigerian nation.
“Preparation for the championship is on top gear to ensure a hitch-free event across the states where the championship will hold. “We have put measures in place to ensure strict adherence to all the COVID-19 safety protocols. The Federation will serve as a change agent for many of our restive youths because we already have plans to engage them in our activities to aid sports development’’ the president emphasized.
The president said wrestlers would compete in more than 10 categories at the event. Uche added that plans were also on to build an academy for youths to regularly engage in the sport.
The technical adviser of the federation, Vincent Dimanozie, popularly known as “Iron Bone’’ said wrestlers were already training to participate in the national event. “My wrestlers are battle-ready for this national competition coming up in April,’’ he said.
Nigerian great talents gearing up to participate in the timely event are wrestlers like Mighty Man, Flying Dan, Mr Sharpman, Power Vic and Zion Lion (Dakkada Bombers), Powerful Okoko, Big Fish, Dangerous Angle, De Squeezer, Rocky Johnson, Stylish J, Iron Lady Becky and others are indeed getting set to show the stuff they are made of.
