Title changes, deathmatch violence and surprises from Argentina’s Legion Nueva Era at their final event of the year
Legion Nueva Era Argentina closed the year with “The Last Supper” their last event until next year, in a night full of surprises and quite a heavy deal of violence.
The show started with the Battle Royale involving 14 Wrestlers. With an array of amusing spots, like the participation of Legion’s referee Ledesma, a spot involving an Invisible Wrestler called Megabyte Fighter, and a lot of the new talent from Legion, from the recently graduated class from the Dojo, the Battle Royale was a great match to start the show with.
In the end Maikol “The Tower”, who had a pretty good year, managed to take the win and got a Title Belt Opportunity of his choosing.
The second match was the now traditional Ricky Rocca Open Challenge, with the highly talented wrestler badmouthing the promotion after losing during the Battle Royale. Guido el Demoledor, who also participated in the previous match (in fact was the Iron Man of it) came out to reply to Rocca’s complaints and introduced his Seccional La Plata comrade Capuchita to accept the Open Challenge.
Capuchita, who hasn’t wrestled in almost two years, was received with an uproarious ovation, being possibly the most beloved babyface in the company. After a relatively short match, Capuchita managed to win to the delight of the crowd.
The third match involved the current Tag Champions, Terry and Slovak, representing the stable Nemesis, that has been running roughshod through many opponents during the year.
The challengers were the unlikely pair of Cassidy and Frankie Legrand, who had a brutal blood feud during the year that ended during the Halloween event with a perilous ladder match won by Frankie.
The action was brutal, full of strikes, big moves and the uncanny aerial prowess of Cassidy at full force. A couple of keyboards were used as weapons by Nemesis, but that wasn’t enough to put Frankie and Cassidy out.
With an impactful high flying maneuver, Cassidy got the win for his team, turning Frankie and himself (christened as “Conurbardo” after the match) into Legion Nueva Era Argentina’s new tag champs.
The fourth match involved the owner of Legion Nueva Era, Francisco Rolón, against Johnny Fox in Argentina’s first ever Death Match. It was a violent match, at points difficult to watch, with both contenders shedding blood early on and only increasing in their brutality with each passing moment.
Neon light tubes became one of the stars of the match, with a countless amount of them being used as weapons to the point that the black ring canvas was spotted with shards of glass, making every move hurt.
One of the highlights of the match came with Johnny Fox introducing a ladder to the proceedings and in an homage to Jeff Hardy, he performed a swanton bomb from the top, only to find that Rolón had moved away, so he landed right into a bed of glass shards.
In the end, Rolón managed to take the win and after a memorable post-match promo, he managed to mend fences with Fox.
Finally, the last match of the show had the long-running champion Pandemia, who has been in top form this year putting on barn-burner after barn-burner, wrestling against the leader of Nemesis, Chuck Dixon, a high flier with a mean streak.
As Pandemia waited for Dixon to approach the ring, the leader of Nemesis was ambushed by Maikol, who brutalized him with a series of stiff chair shots, ending on a piledriver on the chair. With Dixon out cold, Maikol used his Championship Opportunity, won by him in the Battle Royale in the night’s first match, to face off against Pandemia.
Maikol sneaks up on Chuck Dixon and puts him away with a tombstone piledriver on a chair before cashing in on his title shot that he won in the battle royal to open the show
What came next was a stiff match, which almost matched the Death Match in brutality. Pandemia had control of the match for a while, working Maikol’s legs (his greatest offensive asset) while inflicting enough damage to keep the Tower on the ropes.
But Maikol, who had already faced Pandemia before at the Legion Nueva Era Halloween event, had several of the champion’s moves scouted, and began to fight back, countering Pandemia’s attacks. Still, he was hurt, so after a particularly good shot on the Champ, Maikol vacated the ring and jury-rigged a bandage with adhesive tape, to give some support to his damaged limb.
From that point on, it was Maikol’s match. Even with some attempts of Pandemia to regain control, the challenger pushed through his pain and overcame the Champion with a set of skull crushing kicks.
With this win Maikol took the Championship Belt from Pandemia, who held it for around 2 years, being undefeated in single matches in Legion. A celebration ensued with Maikol as the main focus and the show ended on a high note.
Legion closed their year with their 8th event, being one of the most prolific promotions in Argentina during the lockdown. With a new year about to begin, we can only expect more shows from Legion Nueva Era Argentina.
