Pro wrestling to return to Alaska State Fair for first time in nearly 20 years

Palmer, Alaska’s NSA Wrestling will be heading to the Alaska State Fair in August!

State and county fairs in the United States have long been a traditional venue for pro wrestling. However, that hasn’t been the case at the Alaska State Fair in nearly twenty years, for the first time since the early 2000’s, according to sources within NSA Wrestling. Our inquiry to the Alaska State Fair regarding pro wrestling at fairs past went unanswered so we were unable to verify the exact date of the fair’s last pro wrestling event.

The folks at NSA aren’t too concerned with the pro wrestling at past Alaska State Fairs, though. “In some cases it’s best not to mention the past when the past wasn’t good,” one source with the company shared with WrestleMap. Instead, they’re ready to share their local brand of homegrown, fast paced, hard hitting Alaskan indie wrestling on their biggest stage yet on August 30th.

NSA Wrestling has been in business for nearly six years so far. They’re a smaller operation, consisting of about twelve local pro wrestlers. According to a 2020 article by Jacob Mann from the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, NSA was preparing to make their Alaska State Fair debut in August of 2020 but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed those plans for a year. Now, NSA will make their Alaska State Fair debut as they present “Fair/Fight” on the 30th with over a year of planning. The company spoke in that 2020 article about wanting to plan something “epic” that people “want to see every year.” Odds are that NSA is looking to produce an event that is both special and memorable on August 30th at Fair/Fight.

While the company is still in the early stages of making announcements regarding the planned matches and appearances at Fair/Fight, the night’s main event has been revealed. Current NSA Champion and Palmer, AK local, Timmy Hulke, is set to defend his NSA Championship against Shannon Ballard. Ballard is an experienced indie wrestling veteran in his twenty-fourth year of active competition. Considered by some to be a legend on the California indie scene, Ballard has won at least 20 championship titles in his storied career, including being an 18 time tag team champion with his brother Shane. Timmy Hulke will have his hands full but will surely be motivated to keep his championship belt around his waste in front of potentially the largest crowd of fellow Alaskans he has had the opportunity to compete in front of.

NSA has promised to provide updates regarding matches and appearances on their Facebook page and the event page for Fair/Fight on their Facebook profile so be sure to keep an eye on those spots. The event itself is free and the only cost to attend would be paying the cost of admission to the fair.

Good luck to NSA Wrestling on their historic first trip to the Alaska State Fair!
