Jokey is La Numero Uno at Italy’s first all female wrestling event
Electra successfully defends Italian Championship Wrestling Women’s Championship against visiting Maria De La Rosa
It was a big night for women’s pro wrestling in Italy. The so-called “women’s revolution” arrived in the Southern European country on Saturday, October 2nd, as Italian Championship Wrestling held the first ever all women’s wrestling event in Italy, an event that we previewed late last week. The event featured the first ever women’s version of ICW’s La Numero Uno tournament as well as a tag team bout and an ICW Women’s Championship match featuring a visiting European star.
The La Numero Uno tournament saw Jokey beat Queen Maya in the final to be crowned as the tournament’s first ever champion, outlasting seven others in the one night tournament. Queen Maya has been the most successful women’s wrestler in ICW over the last decade or so and has travelled the world honing her craft. This is a big win for Jokey, who is also active in the popular Scottish promotion Insane Championship Wrestling and a former one time Italian Championship Wrestling Women’s Champion. Is Jokey the next dominant female in ICW now that she has dethroned Queen Maya on this big stage?
In the tag team match featured at the event, Domiziana Roy and Emily Ramirez defeated Mary Cooper and Tiffany. Mary Cooper and Emily Ramirez both did double duty by competing in this match after losing their first round La Numero Uno tournament bouts. ICW’s results page from the event shares that Emily Ramirez scored the pinfall victory in this match via chokebomb.
The ICW Women’s Championship match saw defending champion Electra successfully defend her title against the visiting Maria De La Rosa. De La Rosa’s home base is White Wolf Wrestling in Spain but she has also competed internationally in Japan and Germany.
The image gallery shared to ICW’s Facebook page shows that the championship title match was a back and forth affair but Maria De La Rosa was able to land some impactful offense on the defending champion. However, ICW’s results page from the event seems to indicate that Electra was able to hang on to her title by using some underhanded tactics to score a pinfall win.
A huge congratulations is in store for all of the women that competed at this event and Italian Championship Wrestling for successfully running it. Now that the women’s revolution has arrived in Italy, it will be exciting to see what that means for the future of this rich and deep women’s division. Fingers crossed that we’ll see the second edition of the women’s La Numero 1 tournament next year!
