“Action Man” Tiger Fist set to go into pro wrestling promotions in Nigeria in 2023
”Nigerian Pro Wrestling promotions needs a boost” – Tiger Fist
Apart from the fact that the Nigerian general election will hold in the year 2023, another great thing that will also happen in Nigeria is the commencement of the professional wrestling promotion of ‘’Action Man’’ Tiger Fist under the auspices of Unity Haulage Company Promotions based in the Alaba International Market area of Lagos. Alaba International Market is an electronics market located in Ojo, Lagos State, Nigeria. It is the largest electronics market in Nigeria. Apart from the sales of electronic products, the market also deals in the repair of home appliances. The timely commencement of pro-wrestling promotion by this new outfit is indeed great news to the Nigerian pro wrestling industry that has been lacking sincere promotions of the grunt and groan game for a while.
‘’I am ready to take the game up to the next level to what is obtainable when we started the sport in Nigeria with pro wrestling shows coming up weekly, fortnightly and monthly then as reverse is the case now as we can all witness apart from the Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation (NPWF) as a body striving and making waves to have championships’’ emphasized Tiger Fist, a wrestling legend in his own right who retired from competing after 23 solid years of receiving body slams and who still wants to support the game via constant promotions.
‘’Action Man’’ Tiger Fist, whose real name is Peter O. Udechuckwu, was born on the 25th of August, 1957 at Osumenyi town in Nnewi South of Anambra state in the Eastern part of Nigeria where culture is of the utmost importance and traditional wrestling is one of the cultural heritages of the Igbo people where he hails from.
Though he started his pro-wrestling career training under the late Gabriel Ibaku ‘’Machine Gun’’ in 1975 at the Oko Awo Wrestling and Boxing Club in Lagos, Tiger Fist later trained under ‘’African Tiger’’ Mike Bamidele, the former World Light Heavyweight Champion who was the first amateur wrestling coach in Nigeria and who reigned supreme in the UK where he later died. The amateur wrestling training combined with the pro wrestling gimmicks made Tiger Fist a great pro wrestling talent of the 1980s and 1990s.
‘’Wrestling promoters are sleeping now and it is now high time to wake up and do the needful. My exploits in the ring made Oliver Nwosu, the then secretary of the Nigerian Wrestling Board of Control in the 1970s, to name me ‘’Action Man’’ as I was a no nonsense wrestler on the ring then. During that time, we wrestled from coast to coast and from country to country. Due to my pro-wrestling prowess, I was announced as the best wrestler in 1987 and I was presented with {a} return ticket by UNICEF to travel to the USA via Nairobi on a leisure trip which was executed just for one week. I was named UNICEF Wrestler of the Year 1987 because of my performance. John Nebeolisa, Tema Promotions, Power Mike, Bolaji Oni Promotions, as well as a host of others did their best at the inception of Nigerian wrestling but then things have changed a lot and I decided to summon courage and take the bull by the horn to contribute sincerely to pro wrestling promotion’’ Tiger Fist concluded.
During his active days, Tiger Fist was able to favorably compete with great Nigerian professional wrestling talents such as Super Armstrong, Big Balo, Sunny Wonder, Captain Killer, Big Jim Obot, Timesman Udoh, Tony Destroyer, Wicked Bone, Great Langudi, Superbilly Akashili, Sunny King of NIPOST, Emeka the Conquer Mixture, Power Jihad, Atlas Man Mountain 30-10-30, High Tension, K.C. Adumekwe, BIack Iroko and other great talents too numerous to mention. He lists Magnificent Kurata of Cameroon as his toughest opponent to date although they have all been tough in one way or the other.
