Iran Pro Wrestling ascends to the Next Level with new event release

Iran Pro Wrestling is a relatively new pro wrestling company on a relatively new pro wrestling scene. A couple months ago, we didn’t realize that Iran had its own pro wrestling scene to begin with. Since that time, we’ve uncovered three pro wrestling groups that are active within Iran, with each having a different focus on the way that they’re presenting their product.

For example, Iran Wrestling Group, the most seasoned organization within the country, also works hard at producing stunt footage and working in film (although, a recent correspondence between WrestleMap and IWG has led us to believe that new in ring content may be coming soon). Iran Professional Wrestling Federation is a little bit more focused on pro wrestling training and perfecting the ins and outs of the craft. Then there’s Iran Pro Wrestling, who are operating more as a traditional pro wrestling promotion, putting on events and holding regular matches for consumption by the fans.

IPW is a newer organization, first coming into existence in 2021 and holding their first full event, Begin, the same year. The Rasht-based IPW have now recently released their second full show, Next Level, to their YouTube page and have also started sharing some of the matches to their Instagram.

Next Level is a fitting name for the new show. IPW does seem to take it to the next level in this video. The production value is astounding and the vignettes and promos in between matches look like they’re straight out of a feature film. The on screen graphics also look very professional.

For the in ring action, IPW seems to be using a similar method for holding shows that we’ve seen on the indie scene in Turkey. They hold their matches in a boxing ring that’s housed at a local gym and invite spectators to take in the event. In a country where there isn’t many (if any) wrestling rings, it’s an inventive and admirable way to go out and make pro wrestling work in an area where, without that effort, it wouldn’t exist.

The wrestling action is also fun to watch and doesn’t come off much to us as wrestlers from a brand new scene putting on their second show. It feels a little more polished than that. Sure, the wrestlers in the IPW will smooth out some rough edges with more training and experience but that can be said about all young wrestlers.

There are some things from the show that they’ve gotten very right that stand out and stick with you. One example comes from the opening match between Demon and Miti Toman. Both wrestlers do a great job of in-ring story telling here. The fear that Miti Toman has toward the Demon is palpable. A nice touch from the opening of the match comes when the referee checks Miti Toman for foreign objects and finds one. Toman is visibly terrified and the viewer quickly understands that Miti brought the weapon because he felt it was the only way he could survive his scary opponent. This was a really nice touch that could be used more in pro wrestling when trying to get over how terrifying an opponent is.
