More pro wrestling coming to Nigeria as African Wrestling Organization announces first show of the year
Are we in the middle of a boom period for pro wrestling in Nigeria? The African Wrestling Organization has announced that they will be running their first show in nearly a year today. The show, which has been titled Rainbow Slam 2021, is set for October 1st at the Opic Events Centre in Lagos. The AWO was last in action on December 18th, 2020.
The event appears as if it is being held in conjunction with popular Nigerian radio station, 94.1 Rainbow FM, which helps explain the Rainbow Slam name. This return to action comes as the Nigeria Pro Wrestling Federation has been riding a wave of momentum over the last year. Seeing more wrestling promotions return to action in Nigeria is a great sign for the pro wrestling scene in the country.
The AWO is looking to bring a new batch of stars to the ring. The poster that has been released for the show features six advertised wrestlers, with only one of them having competed for the NPWF in the last year. Eagle De Great Nail, a name that may be familiar to readers of WrestleMap, will be in action on October 1st, along with Black Heritage, Major Ariba, 6.5, De Blaze and NPWF star Iron Lady Becky. The AWO is headed up by “The African Dream” Jimmy Palm, who many consider to be the best pro wrestling trainer in Nigeria. With that level of training being bestowed on to the AWO wrestlers, fans should expect some top notch pro wrestling on October 1st!
WrestleMap will be keeping our eyes and ears open for more updates and announcements regarding the AWO’s much anticipated return to action. We will do our best to keep you updated with more details regarding this exciting development for Nigerian pro wrestling!
