China’s Middle Kingdom Wrestling crowns new World Champion at first live TV recording

China’s Middle Kingdom Wrestling held their first ever live event for their popular weekly Blast-Off series on July 23rd, an event that we previously reported on. Now that the 23rd has passed, there’s big news coming out of China following the company’s landmark show.

A new MKW World Champion was crowned at the event! Coldray was able to pin the champion, Zombie Dragon, who reigned with the title since December of 2019, a total of 587 days. Coldray’s victory came in a handicap match with the MKW World Championship on the line, as Coldray and Little Johnny teamed up to take on Zombie Dragon. Reports out of China indicate that Coldray was able to score the pinfall in the handicap match, but not until a number of foreign objects were used on the champion to weaken him.

Middle Kingdom Wrestling reports that the live streaming aspect of the event was a huge success, with this edition of MKW Blast-Off becoming the most watched pro wrestling event in China since 2019. The event averaged nearly half a million views on the Chinese streaming platform Huya.com.

The event does not appear to be available for viewing on Huya anymore. No word yet on if this historic episode of MKW Blast Off will make it to YouTube as the previous episodes of Blast Off have.

WrestleMap would like to take this opportunity to congratulate MKW on their hugely successful live TV debut. Best of luck to the company, and the new champion, moving forward as MKW looks to capitalize off the momentum and fan support that their first live show has drummed up!
