REW Pakistan Forced To Make Adjustments To April 17th Show in Nepal

Revolution Eastern Wrestling’s excursion to Nepal has hit a few bumps in the road but the show is still set to go on tomorrow, Saturday April 17th.

However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the card has been adjusted and the venue has been moved.

Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 visa issues, REW’s Pakistani wrestlers were unable to travel to Nepal and instead were forced to return home. Therefore, REW’s Asian Championship, which is currently held by XMAK, will not be able to be defended in Nepal. The Kovu Brandon, who was also scheduled for the card, will also be unable to attend the event.

Additionally, due to attendance restrictions, the event is being moved from its original location of Bhirkutimandap. Attendance for the event would have been capped at 50. Instead, the show will be held at the Nepal Women’s Wrestling Foundation performance center.

The good news is that REW World Champion Gopal Sharma will be able to make the trip from India and defend the REW World Championship on Nepali soil. Other Indian wrestlers such as Dev The Bull, Hukma Ram Godara and Sushant Sharma are also expected to make the trip and compete on the War in Nepal show. Sources from inside REW have also indicated that American indie wrestlers are expected to be on the card but no word yet on who those competitors will be.

The limitations for this event for REW are surely a letdown as they planned to have high ranking members of the Nepal government in attendance. However, making adjustments on the fly due to these limitations has become the reality of the wrestling world during the Covid-19 pandemic. The fact that the REW World Championship will still be defended on Nepali soil is still a great achievement and helps to further along the promotion’s plans for Asian expansion even while being handcuffed by Covid-19 restrictions.
